When is the Best Time to Buy a Truck?

Choosing Wheels and Tyres for a Street Truck 2

Light trucks are outselling sedans at a staggering three-to-one clip, and millennials are buying trucks at a higher rate than any generation prior. Thank technological improvements for that; even compared to 10 years ago, drivers of SUVs enjoy a similar fuel economy to owners of regular cars. But when is the best time to buy a truck? Car dealerships carry them year-round, but there are certainly times that are better than others.

1. The Best Time to Buy a Truck is at the Beginning of the Week

You’re not necessarily more likely to get great car deals on Monday (or any weekday for that matter), but you may get extra attention.

With many people at work, you may walk into a rather empty dealership and, coming off of a weekend, your sales representative may be feeling fresh and ready to focus on you.

2. The End of the Month is Good, Too

If, however, you are looking for a better financial deal, then the end of the month may be what you’re looking for.

Sales representatives often have monthly quotas they need to fill, so you might be able to get a better deal as their time to fill these quotas begins to run out.

3. You Could Also Try the End of the Year

What’s true about monthly quotas is also true about yearly ones. In fact, many car dealerships may have monthly, quarterly, and yearly quotas.

With that in mind, the end of the year may have sales representatives thinking about their yearly quotas. And with holiday sales often starting in the fall, that would make October, November, and December prime truck-buying season.

The end of the year also marks the end of model years. Typically, new models arrive on lots around September, so you could be looking at good deals in the autumn as dealerships move on to the next year.

4. How About Holidays?

Christmas is a given, but there are other holidays to consider! You’ll likely find car prices dropping dramatically for President’s Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, and other three-day weekends.

So, What’s the Answer?

At the end of the day, the best time to buy a truck comes down to patiently waiting for the right moment to strike. It may even take a little bit of research, like scouring websites around holidays to see what dealerships offer.

No one likes waiting, but the good news is that there are plenty of times throughout the year when you should get some great car deals. The end of the year and national holidays are two prime times.

Unfortunately, it’s still not a normal time to buy any vehicle, due to the ongoing pandemic and the global supply chain crisis. That being said, there are certainly better times than others for buying a truck.
