“Back to the Future“ was the movie responsible for popularization of the iconic DeLorean! It has become a part of the American culture, and whenever we see it featured in a video, we share it with everyone here! Today, the famous DeLorean is the “victim“ of Edd China from Wheeler Dealers. In this video, Edd tries to fix oil leak that has been a problem for this car. Lucky for us, he tells how to overcome this problem ourselves! The first step is to determine where the oil leak is actually coming from.
The DeLorean is known for having 2 notorious seals, one being the water pump seal, and the other the oil pressure sending unit. In this particular episode of the Wheeler Dealers however, these seals are not the cause of the oil leak. The seal that leaks is actually the crankshaft seal. Unfortunately, to fix oil leak, the whole gearbox needs to be taken out, and that is quite a lot of work.
First, the drive shafts are disconnected, and then the gear linkage needs to be unbolted. After this is done, the hand brake has to be disconnected as well and fish out the cable that runs between the rear wheels. With all of these parts out of the way, the gearbox needs to be unbolted of its mounts in order to finally be removed! This brings Edd one step closer to actually repairing the pesky oil leak. In order to get to the crankshaft seal, you have to get past the clutch assembly and the flywheel.
With the crankshaft seal finally showing its face, it is removed and replaced with a new seal that will not leak like its predecessor. Nonetheless, the reassembly takes a few hours, and after all that work, Edd manages to fix oil leak.
