When it comes to technology, the future is coming up fast! Some of the things that not so far ago, we could only see, and comprehend as `real`, in the SF movies, are now becoming a reality and domain of our presence. And this Daimler`s futuristic truck that you are going to see in the video below, is the best proof of that. Daimler is one of the biggest truck manufacturing companies, that has a number of truck brands under its wing, like the Mercedes-Benz, Fuso, Western Star and Freightliner, along with the biggest and the well known cargo hauler manufacturer in North America. At the beginning of this month, Daimler had presented their latest Freightliner Inspiration futuristic self driving Truck concept, taking it in Nevada, to a highway near Vegas, displaying its leading and superior autonomous truck technology.
This is sort of a conjunction to the 2025 Mercedes-Benz Future Truck, that was presented to the public last year. This means that the new Freightliner Inspiration Truck is equipped with the so called intelligent Highway Pilot by Daimler, which includes stereo camera monitoring systems and radar, that can scan everything up to 820 feet, along with the already existing collision-prevention technologies, lane-keeping and cruise control. The system can be activated by the driver, in the moments when the truck is stable on the highway. Then, the Freightliner Inspiration futuristic self driving Truck is operating under a wide range of driving conditions, automatically complying with the existing speed limits, and regulating the distance from other vehicles on the road.
However, this does not mean that the driver has nothing to do. For example, this technology cannot initiate autonomous passing maneuvers, or change the highway lanes, or leaving the highway, all by itself. These functions have to be performed by the driver.
