Every gearhead knows what makes an engine and how it operates and Ducati V8 engine is quiet known. However, forget about all that because one German mad scientist decided to break those rules with this crazy invention. His name is Dieter Hartmann-Wirthwein and he loves innovating and creating unusual engine designs.
It`s an engine with only 2 piston connectors! Dieter says that this engine is still just a prototype and few things needs to be tweaked in order to run correctly. Dieter planned to test it in a 4-cylinder 125cc Honda-based configuration mounted on a Monkey Bike. However, he changed his mind and decided to adapt it into a Ducati crankcase with two cylinders. In time, it was morphed into a unique Ducati V8 engine with 868cc.
The idea is very interesting indeed. However, for the time being, this is all a theory and we wouldn`t like to speculate much until we see it run in practice. There are many modifications done on IC engines, but it`s not like every modification is a success. What we can say though, is that we feel very confident that this Ducati V8 is a potential masterpiece. It`s very possible that some automotive giant will see a huge potential and invest a lot of money in this idea.
