Imagine the feeling when traveling at speed which exceeds that of sound. It has to be an indescribable feeling and only imaginable by those select few who had the privilege to ever go that fast. In the phenomenon called the sonic boom, supersonic jet pilots go faster than the sound of speed. Once they break the barrier, the sight of ripples around the plane can be seen and a giant crack can be heard. Witnessing this phenomenon is quite a sight to bask upon. We are very fascinated by the shock waves occurring around the plane when breaking the sound barrier. This is called the phenomenon of compressibility. Air is made up of molecules, and like any other physical substance those molecules compress thus forming shockwaves.
