On this day, 1920, the Swedish inventor and engineer Nils Ivar Bohlin was born in Härnösand, Sweden! He created the three-point seatbelt which is considered as a real game changer in automobile safety!
In the 1950`s, Nils Ivar Bohlin was designing ejector seats for fighter airplanes before being hired by the Volvo Car Corporation in 1958! Nils Bohlin had developed the new seatbelts within a year, which was introduced by Volvo in 1959! Because of safety, the three-point seatbelt was released to other manufacturers by Volvo for free!
