Back in the day, to get a part like this done you had to have some experience, and not just any metal working machine.
However, in the following decades we as a human race have developed so much that now we only need one machine that can pretty much everything that a bunch of other machines could do earlier, but at the same time and with better efficiency. The machine is a milling and engraving machine that can work on pretty much anything, but in this video it`s working on a piece of aluminum. The way it works is awesome and revolutionary as it will now take us much less time to manufacture things made out of metal.
First, it shapes out a great big circle that will further become a sprocket. Then, while changing the parts that it mills with, it cuts the necessary shape out bit by bit until we are left with a clean-looking sprocket.
However, that`s not all – this metal working machine can also engrave stuff, and they show this to us at the end! It just needs to switch to a smaller drill and get its instructions from the computer which is controlling it and presto – it will carve out anything you want into the metal. Granted, this video used aluminum which is pretty easy to mill, but if you wanted to use any other metal, this milling and engraving machine will get the job done for you.
