The Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion, also known for being the largest helicopter in the US, evolved from another super helicopter, called the CH-53 Sea Stallion, simply by the addition of a third engine as well as a blade to the primary rotor. It first operated in 1974 and was introduced in the US Marine Corps services (USMC) in 1981.
This powerful helicopter is used for transporting heavy equipment as well as for vertical distribution and restoration of damaged aircrafts. It was announced in 2000 that a new programme was developed, called the CH-53X that will keep the helicopter operating all the way to 2025. The new upgrade included a new engine, boosting of the payload capacity, glass cockpit with brand new controls, as well as all-composite rotor.
