There are hundreds and hundreds of cars that are so special to us that we would love to have them in our collection. However, only a handful of those cars are truly remarkable and absolutely everyone can and will recognize them no matter what. This surely has to be the case with the original 1968 Mustang Fastback, a car that plays such an important role in the American muscle cars history.
The reason why this car became so popular over the past several decades is very simple. It is the car used for the iconic car chase scene in the movie “Bullitt”. If you love cars as much as we do then you have probably watched this very same scene over and over again.
It represented true American power; power that had not been seen in cars up until that moment. The reason why this car became even more popular recently is that it had officially become the most valuable Ford Mustang in the world. So how did all of this happen?
Well, as the title says, the original 1968 Mustang Fastback from the movie “Bullitt” has just been sold at the Mecum Auctions in Kissimmee, Florida for whooping $3.4 million.
Many people speculated how high the price was going to be but no one could have expected that the Mustang could be this valuable. Couple of factors played an important role whilst thinking about the true value of it. One of them surely has to be its originality.
However, as above mentioned this is not the one and only reason. Namely, the 1968 Mustang Fastback originally driven by Steve McQueen reached the peak of its fame just some time ago when it was announced that a family had owned this car for so long without changing anything on it. So, as it can be seen from the dozens of pictures the car is in its original shape; it has the original color, wheels and windows.
After years and years of going to exhibitions all over the country, the previous owner decided that it was finally time for someone else to own this beauty. It is fairly easy to conclude that he had made the right decision if you take in consideration the money that he got from it.
Sean Kiernan, the previous owner of the original 1968 Ford Mustang, was a proud owner of the car until this auction. However, he has no regrets after selling the car. We must admit that this could not have been an easy decision for him but all good things must come to an end.
Half a century later we are witnessing something that Steve McQueen could have never thought of. This iconic Mustang is shifting the limit of what originality and piece of history really means.
Prior to the auction everyone had wanted to have this car in their precious collection, however as all of us know, there could have been only one winner. We all hope that the new owner is going to take great care of it in the years to come!
