When talking about the quality at airports, you have to mention Princess Juliana International Airport at St. Maarten. Also, you might have heard about Irma, a really strong and devastating hurricane that hit Florida in September of 2017. Anyway, this hurricane destroys their airport in a staggering show of force on behalf of Mother Nature, which absolutely wrecked the famous airport.
It was famous because one of the runways in it was situated so that planes who were approaching it had to fly just a few hundred feet above the busiest beaches on the island, which made for some thrilling moments and some even more thrilling shots. You`ve probably seen some of these pictures with a plane flying over a beach, looking like it`s about to crash.
Well, they don`t crash, they just land on the airport right next to the beach. Anyway, as it happens, Irma the hurricane destroys most of the island nation, including the airport right when it hits the shores. The airport has a lot of sand found washed all the way up to the main terminal, but there was also damage to the structure and the roof, which makes it even harder to repair the entire thing and get it back into action. I really hope that they can bring this airport back to its former glory, and especially that one runway that goes over the beach – those were some great pictures and we would lose so much if we weren`t able to get them from now on.
