If you wanted to build a massive bridge for a highway, you wouldn`t do it by hand, right? Of course not! You would use the biggest machine you could find that could get the job done as quickly and as efficiently as possible! Apparently, that`s what the Chinese are doing right now, because this huge machine is awesome! I can only describe it as a bridge-builder. It has some wheels and it props itself up on the concrete bridge substructure and then it moves forward incredibly slowly, but just quickly enough so that the workers can keep up with it.
Also, in the back of this huge machine there`s a pre-cast piece of the bridge that it`s going to lay in place! I don`t exactly know how strong the hydraulics on this thing is, or if it even works with hydraulics, but the machine just picks up the thousands of tons of concrete and lays them into place, all the while moving forward in order to lean on another concrete bridge post. It`s incredibly humbling to watch this and it gives you a newfound respect for nature and all things huge. I sure won`t be looking at bridges the same again and I won`t be taking them for granted.
