I sure hope that there is somebody amongst you who is following, or at least who has noticed all that hype that is present lately about the possible takedown of the 3 second barrier, when it comes to the 1/8 Mile distance in radial racing. If that is the case, it would be impossible not to have heard the name of Rick Thornton, who has entered this season with his small block Chevy 1965 Corvette, which seems more than just promising to achieve great results. And in the case radial racing is not very familiar to you, the following video that we have prepared in this article would be a great way to get acquainted.
The man started to work on this highly appealing vintage Chevy Corvette 11 years ago, and somewhere between then and now, he also spent some time in the Outlaw 10.5 competition. But in 2010, he teamed up with his longtime fellow racer and friend Grant McCrary, and together, opened a business for customer cars. The business was great, but as a result, his red and yellow `Vette remained parked for a few years.
Fortunately, as the radial racing started gaining attention, last year Thornton got his Chevy Corvette back in business and started to race again. They throw away the nitrous system, put inside a small block Chevy, mated to a twin 94 mm Precision turbochargers and a Liberty two-speed transmission, equipped with a Neal Chance torque converter. To make a long story short, Rick`s `65 Corvette was transformed into a mean drag beast that can do a serious damage on the strip.
This video is from the semifinals at the Yellow Bullet Nationals, when he faced-off Keith Berry, and won the race with an impressive result of 4.05. Just have a look at the video and you`ll see right away what a great drag beast his vintage `Vette is. And if you are interested to find out more about it, go to this link.
