When you want to get on the highway you have to come up through a supporting road and then you have to do some highway merging.
According to the people in this video, more people suffer car accidents during merging on the highway than they do during passing other cars, and we do that much more, which just signifies how dangerous can this operation be. However, the people that made the video found a guy who is an expert on driving safety and he gets to explain the entire concept to the audience in perfectly simple and solemn tone. He says that in order to execute a perfect merge, there is a strategy to it – which is actually the way that the driving safety professionals intended it to be.
The strategy to highway merging is that you have to find a gap between two cars and then accelerate to fit your car inside that gap. Instead of doing this very simple operation, you often see people slowing down when it`s their turn to enter the highway, which brings an even greater possibility of peril. A lot of people also come to a full stop when it`s their turn to merge with the highway because of the anxiety that this situation presents – you have to be aware of what`s happening in front of you, behind you as well as in the adjacent lanes that you have to merge with, and it`s all going on so fast! But, as always, just keep to these rules and you`ll be fine.
