Hello my fellow car aficionados! Today we have prepared you one truly special video, that will be a good memento of the days when we were all little kids, playing in imaginary cities and worlds, with toy cars, consisted of many of our favorite rides. The place where our Ford Mustang and Dodge Charger were competing better than in the movie “Bullitt”, where our Ferrari and Lamborghini supercars were performing incredible thing, that could not be seen in any Hollywood flick. You are about to enter into the surreal world of the conceptual artist Chris Burden, who had made a jaw-dropping kinetic installation named Metropolis II. It is a city in which 100 000 toy cars are circulating on every hour, on the vast network, consisted of 18 different tracks.
To tell you the truth, I do not believe that I have ever seen anything alike. A perfect kinetic sculpture replica of a frenetic and fast paced modern city, METROPOLIS II, made out of steel beams that are forming an eclectic grid, interconnected with a comprehensive system of 18 roadways. The mini cars are rushing through the city streets at a speed of 240 scale-mph, on the six lane freeway and other smaller roads.
It all looks like one big organism and it is definitely one of the most impressive installations that a Gearhead like us, would truly appreciate. So check it out and see the whole things with your own eyes. And if you want to learn more about it, and see other interesting installations, click here.
