When you think about the German Touring Car Championship, or DTM, you probably think about the DTM Golden era – the time period from 1984 to 1996, where cars raced each other and compared each other with their brutal demeanor, loud and rumbling gas-guzzling engines and drivers` skill that could be matched by no other.
The very fact that Michael Schumacher competed in the DTM is enough to let you know what a big deal it was in Germany and in the racing world as well. However, that organization and the racing events with it, dissolved in 1996, but a new organization bearing the same acronym was born in the year 2000. Unlike its predecessor, this organization wouldn`t be half of what it used to be.
Anyway, in the middle of the DTM golden era, in 1991, Hans Joachim Stuck won the championship while driving an Audi V8 Quattro. This is the event depicted in the video and if you watch it you will see how incredible it is – there is no hiding behind background music, no mercy between the competitors and absolutely no holding back on the field. Hans Joachim Stuck earns his victory in the finals in Hockenheimring but he is not the only one driving the Audi – his teammate Hubert Haupt from Schmidt Motorsport Technik comes in second, also driving a very strong and fast V8 Quattro. And none of them ever worried about their engine making too much noise – it was in fact, a perk to hear your car accelerate and pierce the ears of everyone that was watching.
