The new US aircraft carrier that goes by the name of Gerald Ford features one of the most expensive weapon systems ever purchased. It`s named after naval aviator and former president Gerald R. Ford. This carrier is 1,092-ft long and when fully loaded weighs around 100,000 tons. It should have a massive crew involving 4,660 and carrying up to 75 combat aircrafts. In the video below, you can see president Trump landing on the massive carrier with the presidential Sikorsky SH-3 Sea King. The presidential copter is accompanied by several Boeing-Bell V-22 Ospreys. This footage is available thanks to the U.S Navy.
This new US aircraft carrier features state-of-the-art technologies including EMALS which is an electromagnetic launch system for aircrafts. Meaning that instead of the traditional steam, aircrafts will be launched by using electromagnetism. This system is built to launch aircrafts more gently than former systems. This should extend the aircraft`s life and smaller aircrafts can be launched as well including unmanned planes. Because of this reason, the Gerald R. Ford will conduct 25 % more flights daily than the previous Nimitz class. The carrier can produce more than 30 knots. However, like with other nuclear-powered boats, the real max speed is a top secret.
