There Is A Car From The 1950s With A Fifth Wheel For Easy Parking!

Easy parking sounds like something impossible with all the traffic jam we have today, especially if you are a newbie driver. What bothers drivers the most is parallel parking, especially when you have to squeeze between two cars. Well, yes, cars today have the computer assistance, all the beeping and so on! However, that was not the case in the 1950s when technology was not as advanced as it is today. For that matter, Brooks Walker of California invented a fifth wheel to help parkers do their thing easier.

We find that this is a great innovation for the time as it really looks like it makes parking so much easier! The car in stake was called the Park Car and was a mid-century innovation. The 5th tire was hidden in the trunk of the car. There is a crank in the dashboard which the driver uses to lower the tire from the trunk and make it touch the ground!

This provokes the rear of the car to get lifted as the fifth tire now has the main role at the easy parking moment! It is positioned sideways so it allows the car to rotate for a full circle if possible. This way, the car can easily get in and out of parking spots as it deals with great precision while at it! Of course, a full circle is not needed, but a 90 degrees motion is very handy! Too bad that the automakers at the time did not like this proposal, so now we only have the prototype car with a 5th wheel!

Finally, these are the top 5 parking aids you can get!
