If you think that it`s to drive it under 4,600 miles and then simply let it rust in the garage, then you are as insane as the previous owner of this rescued M1. Between the years of 1978 and 1981, the German manufacturer created only 453 of the mid-engine M1. However, 54 of these were race cars.
The `86 BMW featured a 273HP twin-cam 3.5L inline-6 with a 5-speed transmission. The Italian owner drove this car approximately 4,593 miles before letting it collect dust in a garage for 34 years.

The car was found by the renowned classic car dealer from Germany – Mint Classics. They specialize in BMWs, recently found BMW M1 1981 and immediately took possession. Mint Classics now plan to fully restore the vehicle to its former glory. Judging by the interior and the body, that shouldn`t be such a hard task.
However, the biggest issue is the huge layer of dust. Elsewhere, scratches and several dings can be found as well. Other things that could be degraded over the years are hoses, belts, etc. Stay tuned with Muscle Car Zone for more update on the car when it`s fully restored!
