The relatives of a renowned Newcastle doctor, Harold Carr, were in for quite a surprise when they found this 1937 Bugatti Type 57S collecting dust in a garage. The mythical car was originally owned by Francis Curzon, the 5th Earl Howe who was a former British politician, a naval officer and first president of the Racing Drivers` Club. He even raced with the Bugatti a couple of times in the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans and winning the 1931 race. Harold Carr bought the car in 1955 for $2,500, but drove it for only several years. After he died in 2007, the nephew discovered the legendary Bugatti in the lock up garage.

When discovered, the Bugatti Type 57S still possessed its original body, drivetrain, engine and chassis. The odometer had a reading of 26,284 miles. However, while mostly original, the car had some modifications. The car contained unique rear-view mirrors and a luggage rack. It also possessed unique bumpers that were fitted front and rear. It is also worth mentioning that the car was fitted with a Marshall K200 supercharger as well. When first put on auction, it was speculated that the car would be sold at over 7.3 million dollars. However, those hopes were shattered when it was sold for “only” 4.4 million.
