Back in 2014, the employees of the Caterham F1 Team were led out of the premises by security. Unfortunately, they never returned. Many F1 teams history is a convoluted, winding mess and a sordid tale featuring offshore investors, ego-driven billionaires and naked ambition. Intellectual property traded like Baseball cards. This was the demise and fate of Caterham F1. This is an ignominious racing team competing for three seasons until 2014. Back in the mid-1990s, the legendary racing team, Lotus, imploded. The rights went to David Hunt who is the brother of Formula 1 superstar James Hunt.
He then sold the rights to Malaysian businessman Tony Fernandes. Fernandes is actually the owner of Lotus` parent company – Proton. Having said this, he managed to gain a link to Chapman`s historic past. However, the team never managed to race under the name Lotus because an outfit that goes by the name of Genii Capital made an alliance with the Renault F1 team in order to form Lotus-Renault.
Because of this, the team was renamed to Caterham F1 Team because Fernandes was also an owner of Caterham Cars and raced under that name till 2014. Yeah, as it turned out racing is not easy at all. The proof of this lies in the video below where some guys decided to explore the ghostly offices of the former F1 team. This building includes 150,000 square-feet of offices, buildings and an F1 car testing facility.
These guys managed to explore the entire site before triggering an alarm which caused the police to arrive. At last, check out what the Lotus F1 team has created!
